HOW IT WORKS...
Open to AI artists worldwide, focusing on content by and about underrepresented communities, including people of color.
Short AI-generated films (up to 3 minutes).
- Advertising/Marketing: AI-generated film promoting a product or service (real or fictitious).
- Afro-Futurism: Works that celebrate African culture and heritage with futuristic and sci-fi elements.
- Historical Reimagined: Depictions of historical events, figures, or moments through a contemporary or futuristic lens.
- Music Video: A music video that tells a compelling story with stunning visuals. Music must be original or AI and should not be bound be any commercial copyrights.
- Social Commentary: A film and images that reflect societal issues, cultural dynamics, or personal perspectives.
- Surreal and Fantasy: Dreamlike or imaginative worlds that challenge reality.
- Grand Prize: $1,500 and a feature in an AI magazine.

- Eligibility: Participants must be 18+ and submit original, respectful works.
- Technical Specs: Films must be in MP4 format, maximum 1080p resolution.

Early Entry - $0 March 15th -25th.
Regular Entry - $40 March 26th - April 15th
Student Entry - $25 March 26th - April 15th - Submission Limit: 1 film per person/team in each category. There is an entry fee for each submission after the early entry period.

KIMBERLY OFFORD
Kimberly is a career marketer, storyteller, and visionary. She is also the creator of Playground Pastime, an alternate world of AI images and video. Kimberly has studied AI image and video generation closely and almost daily since her introduction in 2022. Her creations are invitations to imagine worlds that tread the fine line between what was and what could still be—a testament to her belief in the transformative power of art.
Kimberly is the co-founder of AI Brand Content, a premiere AI Marketing Agency. She holds a Master’s Degree in Marketing Communications from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.Â

Who can enter the contest?
This contest is open to all AI artists worldwide. The content of the video, however, must focus on individuals from underrepresented communities, including people of color, Indigenous communities, and other historically marginalized groups. All participants must be at least 18 years old.
How are Underrepresented communities defined?
For the purpose of the Playground Pastime AI Film Contest, underrepresented communities are groups that have historically faced systemic barriers to access and representation in the fields of art, film, technology, and AI.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Racial and Ethnic Groups: Individuals of African descent, Indigenous communities, Hispanic/Latino, Asian, Pacific Islander, and other people of color.
- People with Disabilities: Individuals with physical, sensory, cognitive, or mental health disabilities who bring unique perspectives and creativity to AI and art.
- LGBTQIA+ Community: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and other identities.
- Cultural Minorities: Groups underrepresented in mainstream art and technology narratives, including immigrants and refugees.
What type of films can I submit?
We’re looking for short AI-generated films (up to 3 minutes in length) that showcase creativity, diversity, and compelling storytelling. Your video can focus on cultural heritage, futuristic worlds, community challenges, or any imaginative concept that resonates with the theme of representation.
What is considered an 'AI-generated film'?
An AI-generated film is a video created using AI technologies, such as text-to-video tools, generative AI software, or a combination of AI-generated imagery and animations. If you’re unsure whether your video qualifies, feel free to contact us for clarification.
How much does it cost to enter?
Each film submission after the early bird deadline of March 25th, requires a $40 regular entry fee or $25 student entry fee (USD). If you wish to submit additional videos (up to one per category), you can do so for an additional entry fee.
How will my work be judged?
Submissions will be evaluated by a panel of judges with expertise in AI art, storytelling, and diversity. Key criteria include:
- Creativity and Originality
- Technical Proficiency
- Artistic Expression and Storytelling
- Alignment with Theme
- Overall Impact
What if I’m new to AI film creation?
We encourage artists at all levels to participate! Whether you’re an experienced creator or just starting, your voice matters. We’re here to celebrate creativity and innovation, not perfection.
Can I collaborate with others on my film?
Yes, collaborative works are allowed. However, only the primary submitter (the individual entering the contest) will be eligible for the prize. The entire team would be given credit and featured in the magazine.
What happens if I win?
The grand prize winner will receive $1,500 and be featured in an AIÂ Magazine, showcasing your work and story. Winners will be notified via email and announced publicly on our website and social media platforms.
What are the technical specifications for submissions?
Videos must be:
- In MP4 format.
- Maximum 1080p resolution.
- No longer than 3 minutes.
Are there restrictions on the content of my film?
Yes. Films must be original and free from offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate content. Submissions should align with the contest’s mission to celebrate diversity and combat bias.
How do I submit my film?
Submissions will be accepted online through our contest portal. The portal will open on March 15th, and you’ll be guided through the process of uploading your film and paying the entry fee.
Can I edit or replace my submission after entering?
Unfortunately, once your submission is finalized and the entry fee is paid, no changes or replacements can be made.
When is the submission deadline?
All entries must be submitted by April 15, 2025Â at 11:59 PM Central Standard Time.
How will I know if my submission is received?
You’ll receive a confirmation email once your entry and payment are successfully submitted. If you don’t receive confirmation, please contact us immediately at [email protected].
What if I miss the deadline?
Late submissions cannot be accepted, so please plan to submit your work well before the deadline.
How will winners be announced?
Winners will be announced on our website and social media channels in June 2025. All participants will also receive an email notification.
Will my film be used outside of the contest?
By entering, you grant us permission to use your film for promotional purposes, including showcasing it in the magazine, on our website, social media platforms and in contest-related materials. You will always be credited for your work.
Can I get feedback on my submission?
While we cannot guarantee personalized feedback for every entry, top submissions will receive recognition and exposure in the magazine, offering insights into what made them stand out.
